DNA Ancestry of Winney Muscogee Gay (b. abt 1790 SC or GA-d. 1846 FL) wife of Thomas Gay (b. 1780-1790 GA-d. 1845 FL)
Winney was said to be a Creek Indian. I wondered if any direct maternal descendent of Winnie's had ever done a DNA test and has the maternal haplogroup. If the maternal (mtDNA) haplogroup was known it might answer this question about Winney's heritage.
It would take a descendant whose mother was a descendant of Winney's in the direct female line. It looks like the descendant of the following ladies qualify:
--------------------------------------
First generation (daughters):
Winnie Malinda Gay (m. Kennedy )
Nancy Muscogee Gay (m. Haynes, Padgett)
--------------------------------------
2nd generation (grandaughters):
- Elenore Ellen Kennedy (1845-1895) m. Thomas King
- Nancy S. Kennedy (1859-1931) m. Phillip E. Hinote
- Susan Mary Haynes (1850-1920) m. Daniel Jackson McQuagge
- Sarah Caroline Haynes (1852-1909) m. Duncan Amon McQuagge
- Anne Elizabeth Padgett (1861-1939) m. Francis Marion Sexton
