I work for the Warrnambool City Council, south-west coast of Victoria, Australia.
The Warrnambool bay was discovered in 1844 when a whaling boat, the "Adelaide", captained by Thomas Gay chased a whale into the bay. The "Adelaide" had come from Tasmania and it was a regular thing for whalers from Tasmania to hunt for whales along the south coast of Victoria. Warrnambool has a Gay Street named after Thomas Gay.
